WOODWARD 8237-1246 is a product manufactured by Woodward Company called the ProTech-GII overspeed Protection Device.

• Is a configurable overspeed detection system designed to safely shut down steam, gas and hydraulic turbines of all sizes when an overspeed or superacceleration event is sensed.

• There are two kinds of double redundant tripping relays, which adopt the structure of two out of three voting. Or three separate non-voting trip relay outputs with separate alarm relays, 4-20mA speed readings, and Modbus® communication for easy integration into any turbine safety system.

• It can be configured to protect turbines from high acceleration events by detecting turbine acceleration through the derivative of the speed signal and issuing relevant trip commands.

• The speed sensor input in each module uses a special MPU open detection circuit to verify that the MPU is properly connected prior to turbine operation and a special speed loss detection logic to verify MPU function during turbine operation.

• It can be configured to perform periodic overspeed tests on each module and then record and report the test results.

• The special conformal coating material provides excellent long-term protection against H2S and SO2 gases.

• The three-module design allows the user to easily replace one of the modules (A, B, C) while the turbine is online and operating normally.
