The CI853-1 ABB Communication Interface module is designed to facilitate communication between various devices and systems.

The COMLI can be used with the built-in COM3 port or the CI853 port. RS-232C is a standard communication interface for serial communication with COMLI. The CI853 supports hot swap. COMLI is an ABB protocol for data transfer between controllers.

MODBUS RTU is an open serial (RS-232 or RS-485) protocol derived from master/slave architectures that exchange information in half-duplex mode. The Modbus function can be configured on the COM port of the AC 800M and CI853.

The Siemens 3964R can be used with a built-in COM3 port or optionally with a CI853 port. A standard RS-232C/485 communication channel is required.

Custom serial communication is available for both the built-in COM3 port (on the AC 800M controller) and the CI853 port.

The CI853 module also supports hot swap.

Modbus RTU is an open serial (RS-232 or RS-485) protocol with a source autonomous/slave architecture that exchanges information in half duplex mode. The Modbus function can be configured on the COM port of the AC 800M and CI853. MODBUS RTU does not provide module redundancy. The CI853 supports only the master mode in MODBUS RTU.
