• Multi-device connection: It can be connected to Ethernet switches or hubs, and can communicate with up to 64 field devices to meet the needs of multi-device integration and management in industrial sites, and improve the overall control and monitoring capabilities of the system.

• Flexible configuration and extensibility: XML-based port and device profiles can be set through the FDCI configurator, and the port configurator can easily set the communication parameters of each port, such as dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), IP address, etc. In some cases, the device configurator can also configure parameters related to specific devices and specific points as needed, such as the scan rate, the address to transfer data, and the amount of data. And the module has certain expansibility, easy to integrate and communicate with other systems or devices.

• High reliability: Generally using high-quality materials and advanced manufacturing processes, with strong anti-interference ability and stability, can operate reliably in complex industrial environments (such as electromagnetic interference, temperature changes, etc.), ensure the continuous and stable work of the system, and reduce the risk of production disruption caused by module failure.

• Adapt to harsh environment: usually can adapt to G3 (harsh) environmental conditions, such as with a certain degree of dust, moisture, vibration resistance and other performance, can work normally in the harsh industrial site environment, reduce the impact of environmental factors on module performance and life.

• Data acquisition and transmission: It can collect various data from the connected field equipment, such as analog input (such as temperature, pressure, flow and other continuously changing parameters) or digital input (such as switching state, discrete signal, etc.), and convert these data to the Foxboro DCS control database through Ethernet connection, so as to achieve real-time acquisition and centralized management of field data. Provide data basis for monitoring and analysis of production process.

• Equipment control: According to the instructions received from the control system, the control signal is output to the field equipment through Ethernet communication to realize the control operation of the equipment, such as the control of the motor start and stop, the opening of the valve adjustment, etc., so as to complete the accurate regulation of the industrial process.

• Communication protocol support: It usually supports a variety of common communication protocols, such as Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, etc., which makes it able to communicate with different types and different brands of equipment and systems, with strong compatibility and versatility, convenient integration and application in a variety of industrial automation systems, reducing the complexity and cost of system integration.

• Data conversion and processing: The data is converted to a specific DCI data type by a specific driver that is loaded, including analog input or output values (integer or IEEE single-precision floating-point numbers), a single numeric input or output value, multiple (packaged) numeric inputs or output values (packaged into groups with up to 32 numeric points each connected), etc. To meet the requirements of different equipment and control systems for data formats, to facilitate further processing and application of data.

• Distributed Control Interface (DCI) connectivity: Supports up to 2000 DCI block connections through which data can be read or written from the Foxboro DCS control station for centralized monitoring and management of field devices. And the frequency of the control station to access FBM232 data can be up to 500ms (performance depends on the type of equipment and the data layout in the equipment), to meet the requirements of real time industrial control scenarios.

• Redundant communication support: The fieldbus communication module (FCM100ET or FCM100E) or field control processor (FCP270 or FCP280) connects to the FBM using the redundant 2Mbps module fieldbus, and the FBM232 accepts communication from either path of the redundant 2Mbps module fieldbus. When one of the paths fails or switches at the system level, the module will continue to communicate through the active path of the redundant 2Mbps module fieldbus, ensuring the reliability and stability of communication and improving the fault tolerance of the system.
