Product Description

The HYDRAN M2 is a device from General Electric (GE) for transformer monitoring. Here is a detailed description of it:

peculiarity

Gas and moisture monitoring: can continuously monitor the level of dissolved gas and moisture in transformer oil online, can detect hydrogen, carbon monoxide, acetylene, ethylene and other common fault gases, as well as through the humidity sensor to measure the water content in the oil, help to determine insulation degradation or gasket leakage and other problems.

Additional sensor connections: Allows the connection of additional sensors such as top and bottom tank oil temperature, transformer load, ambient temperature, etc., by correlating these sensor data with dissolved gas analysis (DGA) and humidity values for a more complete transformer condition analysis.

Transformer model calculation: Using the mathematical model of the transformer based on IEEE standards, the raw data is converted into useful condition information, such as estimating the winding hot spot temperature, humidity in the paper, moisture bubbling temperature, insulation aging, overload capacity, cooling efficiency, etc., to provide a deeper understanding of the transformer condition.

Various communication functions: Features a local LCD display for field monitoring, offers various digital communication protocols (e.g. Hydran, Modbus, DNP 3.0) and methods (RS-485, modem, Ethernet, fiber), optional analog outputs (4-20mA) and dry contact relays for further integration, Facilitate communication and data transmission with SCADA or DCS systems.

Advanced and reliable design: The Mark III version updates the electronic board and power supply to meet RoHS requirements and address obsolescence with improved sensors, global power compatibility, support for up to 4 optional input/output cards, and internal multimode fiber optic communication. With a vacuum-resistant gas extraction membrane and built-in temperature regulation system, it can realize self-test and self-diagnosis of the whole system, record data and important events for up to one year, and no on-site calibration is required.

Easy installation: It can be permanently installed on a single transformer oil valve, requiring no additional piping or pumps and often no power outage, and the integrated display and keyboard simplify local user interaction and data visualization

Application scenario

Power facilities: It is an integrated solution for key medium-sized transformers, which can be used to monitor the operation status of transformers in the power system, provide a basis for determining the priority of asset replacement strategy, help power enterprises to better maintain and manage equipment, and ensure the stable operation of the power grid.

Industrial plants: In the industrial sector, transformers that supply power to industrial production can be monitored to reduce the risk of process disruption due to power failure, minimize costly production downtime, and ensure continuity and stability of industrial production.

Substation: Real-time monitoring of the transformer in the substation, timely detection of potential faults inside the transformer, to provide strong support for the safe operation and maintenance of the substation, and help improve the reliability of the entire power transmission and distribution system.

The HYDRAN M2 models are the HYDRAN M2-X and HYDRAN M2-H2, which are described below:

HYDRAN M2-X: The next generation of the HYDRAN M2 series, based on GE's strong technical domain knowledge, provides continuous monitoring of gas and moisture levels to alert users to potential failures, thereby minimizing the risk of unplanned downtime, and is a field-proven HYDRAN DGA monitoring solution. It uses optimized design, low maintenance costs, long sensor service life, has the advantages of small size, no moving parts, low maintenance costs, can be easily installed on a single valve, suitable for a variety of transformers using mineral insulating oils or ester based fluids.

HYDRAN M2-H2: is an online monitoring device for dissolved hydrogen (H₂) and moisture in transformer oil. It continuously monitors the dissolved hydrogen and moisture content in transformer oil, providing personnel with critical monitoring information to detect potential failures in the transformer in time and reduce the risk of unplanned power outages. It functions similarly to the HYDRAN M2, but focuses on the monitoring of hydrogen and moisture.
